It is detailed and very clearly written. His books' companion websites have articles, sample images, video tutorials and updates from Martin so we can stay up-to-date when new versions of the software appear without having to buy his latest books.

Not only is Martin a top photographer but he is also an expert in Lightroom and Photoshop and a clear and concise writer whose books are a pleasure to read and own - you'll want to read them more than once and use them as a reference. Martin Evening has consistently delivered the most comprehensive, readable, and practically useful guide for Lightroom.

I have purchased each edition since LR4. All you need. Ps gets reved all the time, so books are always out of date. Still and all, paper is often more convenient than googling for a youtube video. So this is great to have around for an initial intro to the millions of features and then as an easy access refresher.

Still trying to completely understand what CC brings - in straight forward language. Excellent reference. Love Martin Evenings book. Compared to other guides out there this is definitely the most comprehensive one and this provides you with the all the tools for which to later develop your editing style on.

This is in contrast to others like Scott Kelby whose aim is to provide you with quick tips and tricks to get a certain result. A lot of these 'tips' can easily be found online but what I wanted was a book which showed me all the little functions of Lightroom which I have not bothered to learn how to use and incorporate these into my workflow.

In that respect, this book has certainly done it's job! Detailed, informative and, above all else, readable. Go at your own pace and, in some ways, better than on line tutorials. If you blink, you've missed a key point in a chain of commands.

If you are into editing lightroom, this is the book to buy! I already have the Martin Evening book on Photoshop which is the reason for buying this. Thoroughly recommend as reference book. Would recomment to anyone. A well written and comprehensive book covering all aspects of Lightroom 6 and CC in great detail.

Well illustrated and clearly described by Martin Evening, a close collaborator with Adobe for 15 years. None of the other books on this product come close to the detail and insight this offers.

I think this could could be very accurately described as the definitive manual on Lightroom. Excellent reference, that tries to simplify for the inexperienced Lightroom user and I am sure I will get more and more out of it as I progress. I want give it 5 stars, but at the moment I do find it a little hard to follow at times, so only 4. Customers who read this book also read.

Generally his books are the best comprehensive overviews of the Adobe software. However, I have two reservations. The first is the bad side of comprehensive.

This book is very detailed not only on the use of the programs but on what I might call meta-issues -- how and why the various manipulations work. Because of all the detail and the huge size this book is not suitable as a get-started or how to do X introduction. His Lightroom Transformations is much better suited to that. Or any of Scott Kelby's books which tend to have the opposite problem -- not enough detail on important procedures and too much emphasis on how to do specific tasks.

If you're a relative novice, it's likely to be a waste of money. As a reference book it's unsurpassed. The second problem is much more minor but more irritating. There is a long index, but if you don't know the exact name of what you're looking for, your search will likely be frustrated. However recently I wanted to practice with what I recalled was the little dot you placed in parts of scene to manipulate exposure and other details.

The technical term is Target Adjustment Tool. Now if you don't know the name how are you supposed to look it up? Oh, just go to the part of the book that deals with exposure adjustments. Easy enough to find that. Well the TAT is mentioned, but at least in that part of the book never defined; nor is there a good introduction on what it is or how to access it. In a way this is an unfair criticism. As I well know from experience, indexing a book is tedious, boring, unfulfilling, and just plain hard.

There's also live online events, interactive content, certification prep materials, and more. It also goes very in-depth with all aspects of the develop module, including detailing many techniques for color and black and white editing. It provides comprehensive examples for all types and styles of editing, and RAW file format concepts including camera calibration and RAW color editing.
